STAYCATIONS DEFINED
THE DEFINITION OF A STAYCATION IS:“a holiday spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions”
I have to admit, and I am not proud of it …
That often, I can tell more about other countries than about Belgium, when it comes to interesting places to visit. Why don’t we feel the urge to explore our own country? Because it is right in front of us. We have this strange blindness to that what is right in front of us, and we need to remind ourselves every now and then about what we have right on our own doorsteps. Getting older, I am more and more convinced that Belgium also has to offer great things, and that I really have to put an effort into exploring my own country on a regular basis and appreciate what we have to offer.
So it’s a promise, that during the weekends, I will try to get out more often with the family or my boyfriend and visit places close to my doorstep and write stories about it.
For me a staycation is a trip, more or less 2 hours from my doorstep. So it’s not necessarily only in Belgium, it can be in the Netherlands, North - France, Luxembourg and Germany as well.
What to expect ?
- All major cities in Belgium like: Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Hasselt, …
- But also the Belgian Coast, Hallerbos, Les Hautes Fagnes, Ardennes, beautiful cycling routes, walks, picnic spots, a unique restaurant, etc…
- More about the nicest spots of our Northern neighbours, thinking at Maastricht, Gouda, Christmas at Valkenburg, etc …
